Memo 2025 promises an exciting pre- technical program experience with a captivating field trip. The field trip organizer can cancel the tour if the minimum number of participants is not reached on August 22, 2025. 

 A minimum of 30 people and a maximum of 40 people is required for this tour.

Suncor Base Plant - ONE DAY TOUR


Departure: Tuesday, September 30,2025 at 5:00 am 

Return: Tuesday, September 30,2025 at 9:00 pm 

The bus  pick-up point will be at the Fairmont Palliser and Marriott Downtown Calgary. 

Fee : $1900 including transportation (bus and flight) and lunch.

  • One piece of valid government issued photo ID is required in order to access site 
  • Casual attire: Dress in layers with long sleeved shirt and long pants 
  • Outerwear: Warm waterproof jacket 
  • Footwear: Boots or other footwear with traction is appropriate. No open-toed shoes will be allowed 
  • Participant’s names must be provided 30 days before tour. Any last minute additions will not be able to gain access to site 
  • If you have any pre-existing medical conditions or allergies, please advise the tour guide immediately  
  • It is the tour participant’s responsibility to follow Suncor Energy Inc. safety rules enforced by the tour guide and Suncor security at all times 
  • No illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, alcohol, weapons, explosives or other contraband are allowed on the oil sands plant site. Sniffer dogs are used to conduct without warning and reasonable cause searches on Suncor’s sites in accordance with the Drug Interdiction at Suncor Sites Procedure 
  • Cameras are permitted on tours in administrative areas; however, any photos taken on site cannot be published or posted on the Internet without written consent from Suncor Energy Inc. Communications Department.  This includes all web pages, Facebook, blogs, Twitter etc.  Videotaping and voice recording are prohibited
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for use on site will be provided if required. 

Itinerary

  • 5:00 a.m – Pick up from the hotel to the airport
  • 7:00 a.m – Charter flight departs Calgary for Fort McMurray Scenic flyover of oil sands sites en route
  • 9:00 a.m – Arrival at Fort McMurray Airport, Bus transportation
  • 9:30 a.m – Depart for Suncor Base Plant Introduction to the local community, oil sands industry, Syncrude integration, and reclamation activity
  • 10:30 a.m – Arrive at Suncor Main Gate
  • 10:45 a.m – Pond 1 Reclamation Area Overview Continue to Steepbank Mine Complex with en route briefing (utilities, power, mining, etc.)
  • 11:00 a.m – Arrive at Steepbank Mine Complex – Poplar Room Lunch provided during an overview of Suncor and mining operations
  • 11:45 a.m – Depart for Mine Maintenance Shop Guided tour and overview of the Maintenance Shop
  • 12:30 p.m – Depart for Autonomous Haul Systems (AHS) Control Room Overview of AHS operations
  • 1:00 p.m – AHS Mine Tour PPE required
  • 3:00 p.m – Return to Mine Complex
  • 3:15 p.m – Depart for Wood Bison Viewpoint
  • 3:25 p.m – Arrive at Wood Bison Viewpoint Reclamation overview of East Mine/Sandhill Fen, Base Mine Lake, South Bison Hills, and Gateway Hill
  • 3:45 p.m – Depart for Fort McMurray Short city tour with stop at Back Island
  • 5:00 p.m – Arrive at Fort McMurray Airport
  • 6:30 p.m – Charter flight departs for Calgary
  • 8:15 p.m – Arrival in Calgary and transfer to the hotels
